A collection of documents relating to the life and career of James L. Hutchinson (1847-1910) business partner of P.T. Barnum and one-time co-owner of the P.T. Barnum and Great London Shows and later the Barnum, Bailey & Hutchinson Circus. The collection includes news clippings, and telegrams, a 1907 letter from Booker T. Washington, an 1889 letter from Henry Ward Beecher, a hand written biography of Hutchinson written by Donald Brownlow and a personal note from Barnum to "Hutch." The collection also contains a handwritten contract dated August 11, 1885 establishing a business partnership between P. T Barnum, James L. Hutchinson, and W.W. Cole for the management of the Barnum & London Circus.
